HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 213 Draft 01 1976-1980 RESOLUTION 213 WHEREAS, Mr. Harvey Hess will be recognized in the forthcoming IEth Edition of "Who' s Who in the West" for his achievements in poetry; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hess, a teacher of art and music at the Henry Opukahaia School in Hilo, is an established poet with several books of verse and two sonnet sequences to his credit; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hess did compose the poetic text to the film Kani Liko Lehua which was commissioned for Head Start by the Hilo College Center for Continuing Education and Community Service and was premiered this past September; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hess wrote the libretto to Ka Lei No Kane, the first Hawaiian comic opera which had its world premiere in May at Laie, Hawaii and also wrote the poetic text for the cantata-- Naupaka Floret which was premiered here in Hilo in May of 1974. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it take this means to congratulate Mr. Harvey Hess for his national recognition and prominence in poetry. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Mr. Harvey Hess; the East Hawaii Cultural Council; Mr. Pete Schickler, Community Arts Coordinator, State Foundation on Culture and the Arts; and Mr. Robert Van de Wege, City Spirits Arts Coordinator. 4.
