Resolution
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Air has announced the discontinuance
of its jet cargo service throughout the State of Hawaii beginning
at Lihue and Kona as of February 1, 1978 , and at Hilo and Kahului
as of April 1, 1978; and
WHEREAS, this cargo service has been a vital mode of transpor-
tation used by many industries and businesses in their development
of economic activities, especially in the area of perishable
agricultural products; and
WHEREAS, flower growers, nurserymen, vegetable farmers and
papaya growers on the island of Hawaii have relied primarily on
air transportation for rapid transshipment of their products to
the market centers; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Air has developed the expertise as well as
the facilities throughout the State of Hawaii which assures the
producers of being competitive in the all important market place,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it looks to our leader of inter-island air cargo
services, Hawaiian Air, and asks for a reconsideration of their
decision to discontinue state-wide cargo services.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution
to Hawaiian Air.
