Resolution No. 233
WHEREAS, Awareness House is a multi-modality community service
organization which consists of Helpline, an Information and
Referral Service, an Education and Prevention Program, a Treatment
Modality; and
WHEREAS, the operation is manned by well trained volunteer
with 24 hours availability to insure caller to receive immediate
help in consultation, referrals from loneliness to third party rape;
and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Schools are visited by counselor' s
from the Awareness House, working closely with the educators to
carry out the education and prevention program on drug abuses with
the student on an outreach basis , make presentation to adults
involved in various community groups and organization; and
WHEREAS, the program is operated under the criteria and
guidelines set forth by the Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug
Abuse Branch (ADAB) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) ,
which monitors the operation of the program; and
WHEREAS, there is now a Awareness House Program extended to
Kona on regular basis together with a coordinator servicing the
school system in the West Hawaii with drug education presentations;
and
WHEREAS, each counselor services and maintains a caseload of
approximately 25 clients at present and there is a definite need
of an additional treatment counselor in order to provide the
Treatment Modality Program; and
WHEREAS, the Awareness House is sponsoring a fund raising
project called "Operation Support" a Radiothon on KHLO on Friday
March 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to March 4th 4:00 p.m. and will be
auctioning off many goodies donated by many local firms and friends
at the Royal Banyan, 885 Kilauea Avenue in Hilo.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it recommends and encourage the people in this
community to fully support the fund raiser for this worthy cause.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to Mr. Allen Fields ,
Director of the Awareness House.
