Resolution No. 2 o (REVISED)
WHEREAS, Dr. Harvey Saburo Hayashi, who until his passing in
l943,1 was an outstanding citizen and a community leader for many
years, having dedicated the greater and best part of his life in
the service of our people more especially, the residents of West
Hawaii; and
WHEREAS , Dr. Hayashi was an esteemed member of the medical
profession having matriculated at Hahnamann Medical School,
University of San Francisco and received his degree in medicine
from the Aomori University in Japan; and
WHEREAS, besides his busy schedule as a "general practitioner
and country doctor" , he also devoted his precious time for community
services which included the publishing of the Kona Echo for many
years; and
WHEREAS, the present site of the soon to be completed Holualoa
Community Center, is the location on which Dr. Hayashi helped to
establish a well-known and sucitessful language school with his
wife, Matsu, serving as its first teacher; and
WHEREAS, in memorium to this man and the other pioneers of
West Hawaii who have made noteworthy contributions towards the
well-being of their fellowman,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that as a fitting tribute to Dr. Hayashi, recommends that
the Holualoa Community Center be named the Dr. Harvey S. Hayashi
Memorial Complex in honor of this honorable man and his pioneering
achievements; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to the family of Dr. Hayashi
and Mayor Herbert Matayoshi.
