RESOLUTION NO. =7
WHEREAS, Captain Ellison S. Onizuka, United State Air Force,
has been selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administra-
tion (NASA) as one of 35 new astronauts to undergo training for
space flight; and
WHEREAS, Captain Onizuka was selected after a thorough
screening of some 8,000 applicants and has been designated as a
mission specialist; and
WHEREAS, Captain Onizuka, born and raised in Kona, Hawaii,
became the first Hawaii State resident to be selected to the United
States Space Team; and
WHEREAS, Captain Onizuka' s selection serves as an inspiring
example of individual determination and dedication to the people
of Hawaii,
NOW, ThEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it takes this means to express its hearty congratu-
lations to Captain Ellison S. Onizuka on his selection as a member
of our National Space Team, and to his mother, Mrs. Mitsue Onizuka
of Kona, Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of this resolution
to Captain Ellison S. Onizuka and to Mrs. Mitsue Onizuka.
