Resolution
WHEREAS , the macadamia nut industry is the second largest
diversified crop on the island of Hawaii ; and
WHEREAS , the island of Hawaii produces 99. 6 percent of the
State ' s total macadamia nut crop; and
WHEREAS , our statewide dominance in this industry represents
plantings of 10 , 200 acres--exceeding that of Kenya (8,000 acres ) ,
Transvaal S. Africa (3 , 700 acres ) , Australia ( 3 , 500 acres ) and
Guatemala (3 , 000 acres ) ; and
WHEREAS, our world leadership fosters from the persistent and
continuing efforts of organizations as the Macadamia Nut Growers
Association; Brewer Orchards , Inc. ; the Hawaiian Holiday Macadamia
Nut Company; the Kona Farmers Cooperative; and the Hawaii Agricultural
Experiment Station, University of Hawaii.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that in recognition of our standings in this worldwide industry,
to hereby proclaim the island of Hawaii to be the Macadamia Nut
Capital of the World.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
and is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the
Macadamia Nut Growers Association; Brewer Orchards , Inc. ; Hawaiian
Holiday Macadamia Nut Company; Kona Farmers Cooperative; and the
Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Hawaii.
