RESOLUTION NO. 221
WHEREAS , on January 28 , 1978, the Hilo High School Girls '
Softball Team brought glory to the Big Island by deservedly winning
the 2nd Annual State of Hawaii High School Athletic Association
Softball Tournament held on Kauai; and
WHEREAS , this notable "first" for any Big Island high school
softball team culminated a highly successful season, which included five
pre-season, eight regular and four post-season victories with no defeats ,
plus an outstanding perfect no-hit, no-run game pitched by Charlene Kela
in the recently concluded State Tournament; and
WHEREAS , such a feat for which all Big Islanders can be very proud
of must have been achieved by a superlative team effort highly influenced
by a talented coaching staff; and
WHEREAS , such personalities merit recognition, namely:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII , that in cognizance of this notable sporting achievement, it
extends its congratulations to all of the above-named participants.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to Callen Perreira,
Head Coach; and to Dr. James Kurashige, Principal of Hilo High School.
