Subject: Please vote in favor of Bill 101
Aloha Honorable County of Hawaii Councilmembers.
Please vote in favor of Bill 101 to limit the County's use of chemical herbicides.
Long-term exposure is linked with increased risks of cancer including non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. In fact, I have
an uncle who died from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma who was exposed to these herbicides at his place of
employment. When he became sick (this was back in the 70s)his employer generously covered all of his
medical bills. And paid for a rehab gym in his house. And offered his widow quite a substantial payment to
"help her out."
I say generously with a tinge of sarcasm. This was clearly a payoff for misdeeds. They knew THEN that these
chemicals were dangerous.
Let's not look back on 2019 as a time of mistakes. Let's be the change that this world needs, cutting out the
toxins to prevent furtherdisease and death.
Let's expand non-toxic alternatives to the chemical poisons. I know the county has experimented a bit with the
idea of using goats. (Bravo!) I'd love to see you also consider options like using salty sea water to make
roadside soils uninhabitable for weeds. Or to invest in some of these amazing pieces of equipment:
