Subject: Support Bill 101
Aloha County Council Memebers,
My name is Kulani Nelson-Riley.
I am writing in support of Bill 101- prohibiting the use of toxic pesticides and herbicides on all county roadways, parks,
bikeways,roads,trails, drainage ways and waterways.
One day,a few years ago, I was driving home from kona airport heading south. I noticed a worker wearing one of those
protective white suits and a fully protected face mask/respirator with tank sprayer on back spraying chemicals on the
side of Queen K Hwy. I had my window down. Didn't think anything of it.
Immediately after passing by I inhaled whatever was being sprayed (down wind draft) and started coughing so hard I
had to pull over for several minutes till it subsided . I remember the unpleasant taste and how harsh just that tiny bit I
inhaled affected my ability to drive safely instantly after inhaling the chemicals caught in the down wind . Not a fun
moment at all that was.
I am grateful for all the hard work those have done to make this bill a reality helping to ensure making the Big Island a
chemical free Hawaii for our Keiki, Kupuna and environment!
Mahalo nui loa for your supporting Bill 101.
Kulani.
