To Hawaii County Council and all Hawaiian councils,
Hawaii County is poised to make a responsible move to eliminate the use of toxic chemicals
that are scientifically proven to affect our ecosystems and are suspected to contribute (if not
cause) human diseases. The delicate balance of our flora and fauna has already tipped, but we
can take action to mitigate damage and to prevent harm.
One question remains unaddressed: why would we want a transition period?Wouldn't the
known carcinogenic effects of something we could see harming us be stopped immediately?
The fact that pesticides are insidious does not make them less harmful.
I ask that not only do our Hawaiian Island councils ban the use of pesticides, but that we do
what is best for our people and planet--ban them now.
