Dear Hawaii Council,
I ask you to please support bill 101 that would prohibit the use of toxic pesticides and herbicides on all county
owned parks,roads,bikeways,sidewalks,trails,drainageways,and waterways.
I am a Kaua'i resident,and we recently were able to pass a similar measure.It's critical for the health of all residents
and visitors to the state for our islands to join together and start using organic practices to care for our land,so that
we may pass on to our great grandchildren a thriving,vibrant world that can sustain them and their families far into
the future,just as the Hawaiians did for centuries before European contact.
The bill allows for a 3 year transition period,establishes a Vegetation Management Transition Committee to guide
the conversion to organic practices,and calls for a complete prohibition on synthetic pesticides on County-owned
land beginning Jan. 1,2023.
Toxic pesticides and herbicides are harmful to human and environmental health.Organic land management practices
can replace the use of chemicals and allow us to be better stewards of the land.
