COUNTY OF HAWAII * 6.''.=' /_•�- STATE OF HAWAII <br /> '�tE OF\,,...s... <br /> N�� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 395 19 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA TO <br /> ASSIST WITH EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH THE 6th INTERNATIONAL <br /> SCIENTIFIC WORKSHOP ON RAT LUNGWORM DISEASE. <br /> WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose purpose is to <br /> assure critical habitat for native species and open space for future generations; and <br /> WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna, along with the University of Hawai`i at Hilo, is hosting <br /> the 6th International Scientific Workshop on Rat Lungworm Disease scheduled for January 5-8, <br /> 2020, at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel; and <br /> WHEREAS, rat lungworm is a disease caused by the ingestion of a parasite, often passed <br /> on from snails or slugs, which can affect the brain and spinal cord and lead to severe headaches, <br /> neck stiffness, temporary paralysis, and sometimes death; and <br /> WHEREAS, experts from around the world will gather to present recent developments <br /> in detection, treatment, prevention, education, ecology, health impacts, financial status of <br /> patients and their ohana, tourism, agriculture, domestic pets, livestock, and the economy; and <br /> WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funds for conference bags, educational <br /> materials, and poster-board session materials related to the 6th International Scientific Workshop <br /> on Rat Lungworm Disease; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports the local, national, <br /> and international promotion of locally produced agricultural products and the innovative research <br /> to strengthen the production of food; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna to assist with expenses <br /> associated with hosting the 6th International Scientific Workshop on Rat Lungworm Disease. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
