RESOLUTION NO. - 247
WHEREAS, ANTHONY R. PAUL, retired Big Island Chief of Police
passed away on March 10, 1978; and
WHEREAS, ANTHONY R. PAUL began his 36-year police career with
the Honolulu Police Department in 1933 attaining the stature of
a detective; and
WHEREAS, ANTHONY R. PAUL was appointed Assistant Chief of
Police for the County of Hawaii on July 1, 1943; and
WHEREAS, in 1947, ANTHONY R. PAUL did become one of the first
FBI National Academy graduates from Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, ANTHONY R. PAUL was appointed Chief of Police for
the County of Hawaii on June 16, 1948; and
WHEREAS, with unrelenting dedication, steadfast perseverance,
and responsible leadership, ANTHONY R. PAUL held this esteemed
position for 211/2 years until his retirement on December 29 , 1969,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it expresses its profound sadness upon the passing
of ANTHONY R. PAUL and extends its condolences and deepest sympathy
to his family.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of this resolution
to his sons James R. Paul and Big Island Police Chief Guy A. Paul,
and to his daughter Mrs. Stanley (Doreen) Gomes.
