RESOLUTION NCO — 4.),4 Ei
WHEREAS, the VULCANS of the University of Hawaii at Hilo have
successfully captured their second consecutive National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) District II Regional Basketball
Championship; and
WHEREAS, as prevailing champions of the District II Region they
are in Kansas City participating in the 41st Annual NAIA National
Basketball Championships; and
WHEREAS, the VULCANS have added glamour and excitement to the
Championship Tournament as well as achieving recognition for the
University of Hawaii at Milo and the city of Hilo; and
WHEREAS, the "Vulcan Fever" has spread throughout the State of
Hawaii and has brought heart-stopping exhilaration to its fans and
supporters; and
WHEREAS, the members of the 1977-1978 VULCANS are truly an asset
to the school and community,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that the VULCANS of the University of Hawaii at Hilo be con-
gratulated for capturing the 1977-1978 NAIA District II Regional
Basketball Championship and may success be with them at the NAIA
National Basketball Championship Tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit true copies of this resolution to Dr. Edwin H. Mookini,
Chancellor of the University of Hawaii at Hilo; Mr. Ramon Goya,
Athletics Director; Mr. James Yagi, Coach; Mr. Joey Estrella and
Mr. Dwight Sumida, Assistant Coaches; Jay "The Bird" Bartholomew;
Mark "Lace" Lovelace; Bill "0" O'Rear; Bill "Wall" Walling;
Tom "Truck" Zeimantz; James "Cheetah" Bradley; Bill "Nails" Naylor;
Doug Cameron; Ron Nelson; and Rama Camarillo, members of the team.
