EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILY OF THE LATE JOSEPH RUI7
GARCIA, SR.
WHEREAS, Joseph Ruiz Garcia, Sr. , passed away on March 14,
1978, at the age of 91; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia, horn in Tarifa Cadiz, Spain, left his
home in 1913 at the age of 26 and was among the last immigrants from
Spain to come to Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia settled on Maui and was employed at the
Pioneer Mill Company until his retirement in 1952, as stable boss
then as irrigation supervisor, and exemplified himself as a hard-
working, "lively" and down-to-earth Spanish immigrant ; and
WHEREAS, he will long be remembered by his fellow workers as a
very honest, unselfish and sincere person who was always ready to
give counsel to whomever needed assistance, and who never asked
more of others than he would of himself; and
WHEREAS, fond memories of Mr. Garcia with his colorful Spanish
accent and the joy and laughter he brought with his jokes and inter-
esting tales shall remain with those who knew and loved him; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia, a devoted and loving father, firmly
instilled upon his four children, Joe, John, Dolores and Frances,
that "nothing comes easy" and only through hard work, dedication,
sincerity and honesty with oneself could you then serve your fellow
man.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its deepest sympathy and condolences to the
family of the late Joseph Ruiz Garcia, Sr.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution
to Joseph R. Garcia, Jr. ; John B. Garcia; Dolores Wininger; and
Frances Radford.
