RESOLUTION NO.
WHEREAS, Big Island Sports Columnist Bert S. Nakaji, author
of "Sports Dirt" , did retire from the Hawaii Tribune-Herald with
the printing of his final column on March 16, 1973; and
WHEREAS, Bert Nakaji entered the field of professional
journalism on February 2, 1941, with his appointment to the then
Hilo Tribune-Herald, serving as Sports Editor for 33 years and as
a Columnist for the past 21/2 years; and
WHEREAS, Bert Nakaji has recorded Hawaii 's local sports history
in his more than 3500 "Sports Dirt" columns with accurate reportings
capturing a wide following of readers using vivid descriptions, a
thorough sports knowledge, a command of the language, constructive
criticism, praise, and his personal touch of local flare,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it commends Bert S. Nakaji for his most successful
and illustrious journalistic career and extends its congratulations
and best wishes on his recent retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to
Mr. Bertram S. Nakaji.
