Resolution
WHEREAS , Hawaii ' s first commercial macadamia nut orchard
dates back to 1916 on the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS , the macadamia nut has hence developed into Hawaii ' s
third ranked principal crop with an annual production valued in
excess of $6 , 300 ,000.00 ; and
WHEREAS , the Hawaii Macadamia Producers Association was
organized to help the individual farmer enhance his ability to
grow macadamia more efficiently; and
WHEREAS , the Hawaii Macadamia Producers Association has been
instrumental in the development of this industry by continually
introducing the latest techniques , fertilizers , herbicides , and
planting varieties to the individual farmer; and
WHEREAS , the Hawaii Macadamia Producers Association will
conduct its 18th Annual Meeting on May 13 , 1978 , in Honokaa,
Hawaii ; and
WHEREAS , befittingly, Honokaa is the birthplace of Hawaii ' s
first commercial macadamia orchard and is also known as the
Macadamia Nut Capital of the World.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its aloha and best wishes to the Hawaii
Macadamia Producers Association as they open their 18th Annual
Meeting fostering the continued growth and development of our
Macadamia Industry.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution
to the Hawaii Macadamia Producers Association.
