Mayor FC To: fl MtMSU r rnest a uelitial 1.457 DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL SERVICES COUNTY OF HAWAII AUTOMOTIVE STORES CLERK Duties Summary- Receives, stores and issues spare and replacement parts, equipment and expendable items used in a major automotive repair shop; orders and purchases parts and accessories; maintains inventory records and stock record cards; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class is distinguished by its responsibility for ordering, purchas- ing, receiving, storing and issuing spare and replacement parts, equipment and expendable items used in a major automotive repair shop. Illustrative Examples of Work: Receives, stores and issues spare and replacement automotive parts, equipment and expendable items; reads manufacturers' catalogs for stock number and replacement part; translates shop or colloquial terminology to standard commercial or manufacturer's nomenclature and orders or purchases non-stocked repair parts, accessories and related supplies from vendors' catalogs; files copies of requisitions and purchase orders; compares invoices against requisi- tions to verify quality, quantity and unit prices; contacts vendors for shipping adjustments; advises mechanics on substitution or modification of parts when replacement is not available; discusses with mechanics use, features and relation- ships of various parts based on knowledge of engine, machinery or equipment; classifies and stores incoming parts and equipment; inspects worn-out or damaged tools and equipment for serviceability; prepares daily tabulations of parts, equipment and supplies received and issued; posts receipt and issue data to stock record cards; checks stock record cards for minimum stock level and may initiate requisitions for stock repienfshment; takes per3')dic physical inventory of parts, equipment and supplies on hand; operates hand truck, fork lift and other equipment in moving bulk materials and equipment; may operate light motor vehicle to pick up parts and other items from vendors; may supervise assigned helpers. Minimum Qualification Requirements: Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience sub- stantially equivalent to graduation from high school and 2 years of experience in the issuance and storage of automotive parts and accessories. License Requirement: Possession of a valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3). s AUTOMOTIVE STORES CLERK -2- Knowledge of: automotive parts and accessories; common practices, tools and equipment used in the repair of automotive and other motorized vehicles; sources of supply; terminology and classification of automotive parts and acces- sories; purchasing and requisitioning procedures; principles and methods of stock accounting and control; basic office procedures. Ability to: make arithmetical computations; read parts catalogs and recommend substitutions; inspect automotive parts and accessories to determine their operational fitness; operate a typewriter and other common office equipment; perform clerical functions; work harmoniously with others; give and follow oral and written instructions. • Physical Requirement: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for perfor- mance of the duties.
