HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 303 Draft 01 1976-1980 RESOLUTION NO. 303 '411FREAS, for the third consecutive year, the city of Hilo was again selected and, favored as the host city for the International Pacific Rim Volleyball Championships for the period August 14 through 18 , 1978 ; and WHEREAS , this popular tournament is qualified to teams composed of young men and women players aged 20 years and below, coming from any country that "rims the Pacific Ocean ; and WHEREAS , for this Fifth Annual competition, eight men and seven women teams from Korea, Japan, Canada , Australia, Continental USA, Honolulu and Hilo will be vying in what has become the most presti- gious Junior Volleyball Tournament in the world as attested by the international participation and the fact that such nations as New Zealand, Tahiti , Chile , Philippines and Russia are listed as interested and prospective future participants; and WHEREAS, with the strong potential that the State of Hawaii is being considered as the permanent site for future tournaments due to its ideal , centralized location, an eventuality that would benefit our State and County, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it commends the efforts of the Paili men 's Club under the leadership of President Thomas Lindsey and Tournament Director Kenneth griffin for sponsoring this undertaking and providing a tremendous sporting opportunity which benefits the players , the snectators and the community. BE IT FURTHER RFSOLVFD that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii remit true copies of this resolution to lessrs. Thomas Lindsey and Kenneth Griffin and to the President of the Pacific Rim Volleyball Chammions Board of Directors along with the wishes of the County Council for perpetual success.
