DE SILVA, a member in good standing of the Opihikao Non-Marching Band, has devoted the majority of his life work to the service and protection of the general public; and WHEREAS, PAUL M. 02 SILVA has served the people of Hawaii as an officer and helicopter pilot with the 29th Brigade, Hawaii Army National Guard; and WhEREAS, PAUL M. DE SILVA has worked with the youth of our County as a teacher at Waiakea-Kai School, Hilo Intermediate School and Hilo High School; and WHEREAS, PAUL M. DE SILVA was appointed Deputy County Attorney and served in that capacity until activated in 1968 with the 29th Lrigade, Hawaii Army National Guard where upon his release fron active duty in 1959 , he was again appointed as a Deputy Prosecutor and WHEREAS, PAUL M. DE SILVA was elected by the people of the County of Hawaii as their Prosecuting Attorney in 1972 and re- elected in 1976 ; and WHEREAS, during his tenure as the Chief Prosecutor, PAUL M. DE SILVA did successfully conduct a campaign against organized crime obtaining murder convictions for an organized crime-related death and by proposing the development of a Special Unit Against Organized Crime; and WHEREAS, PAUL M. DE SILVA has been appointed by the Hawaii Supreme Court as a District Court Judge. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations and best wishes to PAUL M. DE SILVA on his selection and appointment as District Court Judge and commends him for his devoted public service with the County of Hawaii. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution to PAUL M. DE SILVA. hes. No. File No N. 13.
