RESOLUTION NO.- 281
WHEREAS, Gilbert Tavares, Jr. , of Holualoa, Kona, was
selected and honored by the General Insurance Association of
Hawaii as their Hawaii County Fireman of the Year for 1977; and
WHEREAS, this service award is conferred annually in
recognition of meritorious and distinguished services; and
WHEREAS , Firefighter Tavares, while assigned to the North
Kohala District, did recruit, coordinate, and develop an effective
volunteer firefighting squad providing fire protection to the
3,500 residents of the district; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Gilbert Tavares, Jr. , did display
exceptional courage, initiative, and performance above and
beyond the call of duty during a rescue call at Keokea, North
Kohala,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it commends Gilbert Tavares, Jr. , on his outstanding
performance and selection by the General Insurance Association
of Hawaii as their Hawaii County Fireman of the Year for 1977.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of this resolution
to Gilbert Tavares, Jr. , and to the Hawaii County Fire Department.
