RESOLUTION NO. A., #'472
WHEREAS, John Thomas is recognized as an outstanding
contemporary painter of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, John Thomas, a noted California painter, did in
1965 choose to live in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, during his past twelve years in Hawaii, John Thomas
has created along with other works, two major series: (1) "Woman
with Orchids" , consisting of four paintings, and (2) "Boy with
Goldfish" , consisting of seven paintings, which infuse intense
colors and symbolic imagery upon a grid system or "stereo metric
web" ; and
WHEREAS, John Thomas has been a teaching influence on the
campuses of the University of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, John Thomas has been accorded the honor of displaying
his series of "Boy with Goldfish" in a statewide tour in conjunc-
tion with the Honolulu Symphony performance of the series inspired
cantata of the same name,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OP THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to John Thomas in
recognition of his prominence as a contemporary artist.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to
Mr. John Thomas.
