REsOLUTION NO.
WHEREAS , Hawaii Preparatory Academy, the North Division Titlist
won their first Big Island Inter-Scholastic Baseball Championship in
eighteen years by defeating the defending champion Hilo High with
a nervewracking 3-2 score on Saturday, April 23, 1978, at the
Walter C. K. Victor Baseball Complex; and
WHEREAS , the champion Kamakanis, coached by Paul hannen, won
the North Division pennant with a 10-2 mark and then went on to
represent the Big Island in the State High School Championship
Tournament at Aloha Stadium; and
WHEREAS , Hawaii Preparatory Academy Kamakanis placed sixth in
the State High School Championship Tournament and intimidated the
Champion Campbell High School by relinquishing the victory by a 1-0
mark in the ..)tate opener; and
WHEREAS , the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Titlists
are spearheaded by Head Coach Paul hannen, Assistant Coaches
Ron Schweinsberg and Fred Wood, and team managers Ted Doi, Erin Bergin
and Tracy Kimi; and
WHEREAS , Robert Kang, John Kaohimaunu, Doug hannen, Kevin Parker,
Phillip Pea, Collin Sakuma, Richard White, Pat Sullivan, hike Tosh,
Glen Haserot, John Harriman, Steve Clark, Scott Copp and Steve
Harriman make up the championship team; and
WHEREAS , there is a strong possibility of having one or more
top players from this championship team join the University of Hawaii
Hilo College Vulcan baseball team in the coming year.
NOW, THEREFORE B IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it congratulates Hawaii Preparatory Academy Kamakani's
Championship Baseball Team for their accomplishment and extends the
commendation to all who have made this possible.
BE 1T FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawai be
and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution
to Head Coach Paul hannen of the Kamakani's Baseball Team.
