Dear Councilmembers,
I strongly oppose the passage of the herbicide ban bill (Bill 101). Herbicides are the most
efficient means to mitigate weed overgrowth, and banning them will necessitate manual and
mechanical removal. This will be much more costly in terms of money, emissions and time.
Further, depending on the number of crews dedicated to weed control, mechanical efforts will
likely always be in catch-up mode.
Please strongly consider and prioritize input from Big Island farmers and ranchers, who have
the most experience with weed management. Please also consider the traffic, environmental
hazards and liability associated with unmitigated weed growth.
Please vote no on Bill 101.
Regards,
