I am writing in SUPPORT of the proposal that would "prohibit the use of toxic
pesticides and herbicides on all county-owned parks, roads, bikeways, sidewalks,
trails, drainage ways, and waterways."
I moved to Kauai 4 years ago and in that short time have developed medical issues',
and allergies I never had before. I believe the abundant use of pesticides here to
manage vegetation has contributed to that.
On numerous occasions in the last 3 years alone, I've been subjected to a strong ..
chemical odor. Upon trying to find the source, I discover workers managing the _
vegetation on the side of the road up and down Kuamoo rd, where I live (and have%,,
lived the last 3 years) The trades then blow the chemical and odor right into my open a
windows of my home which sits right on the edge of Kuamoo.
I know they spray because I can see them, I can smell it, and I can see the vegetation
dying after they are gone.
I cannot move my home, I can't afford air conditioning to be able to close windows,
and I rely on trades to cool my house and am subjected to breathing in the fumes.
I can't just not breathe.
There is no notice, no warning, of when spraying is going to happen.

Studies have proven the detrimental effects of herbicides and pesticides.
I think it prudent for the county to stop using them ASAP for the safety of all residents.
