I would like to see the amendments to Bill 101,prohibiting the application of listed herbicides
to county roadsides, parks, etc..., approved by council.
Several of the listed herbicides are known to negatively impact bees neurologically, making it
difficult for them to navigate as they forage for their hives' needs.
It can also disturb their digestion, resulting in malnutrition, which in turn leaves them
susceptible to the attacks of mites and small hive beetles.
I have witnessed in my own hives bees that have become immobilized on their comb, unable
to walk well, and very quiet, after a neighbor's heavy spraying. A healthy hive is constantly
in motion and buzzing.
It tears at me that I can usually do nothing for them at this stage, but now I can give my voice
to stop a little of the spraying that is so detrimental to bee colonies.
Why would I NOT vote for this bill that would save at least a small part of our bees, without
which this planet would soon perish?
Thank you,
Iris Carter
