Dear Council Members: =
August 10, 2018 S289 Million Jury Verdict—San Francisco jury found in favor of Benicia Unified
School District Groundskeeper Dewayne "Lee"Johnson on all counts against Monsanto, which 2. -
included reckless endangerment, acted with malice, oppression or fraud, and knowingly preventing:
warning label on a product they have known for 40 years to cause cancer. iso
Dewayne "Lee"Johnson filed the lawsuit(case no. CGC:-16-550128) against:St. Louis-based
Monsanto Co
Since then, two additional cases have been tried and won with unanimous jury awards of over$2
billion on all of the above counts in favor of plaintiffs, all of whom have shown links between Non-
Hodgkin Lymphoma and their use of Roundup. several more will begin in the new year 2020.
Tens of thousands of additional cases such as Johnson v Monsanto are being tried by people around
the state and around the world because a tiny proper warning label may have prevented exposures
now causing Non Hodgkin Lymphoma cancer,we believe the use of these deadly herbicides opens
The State of Hawaii to liability for billions of dollars in the state's workers compensation, healthcare
costs and punitive damages for failure to place a warning label on glyphosate-based (and other)
herbicides, but more, for knowingly continuing to spray in heavily-traveled pedestrian, waterways,
schools, and state owned lands of the most widely used herbicides on Earth. As Jane Goodall asked:
"How could we have ever believed that it is a good idea to grow our food with
poisons?" These poisons are now everywhere: human blood, urine, breast milk, hair and bone
marrow.
We call on Hawaiian Legislators and Governor David Yutaka Ige to protect our citizens,
immediately move to place a Warning LABEL on ALL Glyphosate Based Products sold in the state of
in HI and to ban the further use of glyphosate and all deadly herbicides and pesticides from all state
facilities, parks, schools, waterways and roadways until it is proven safe by an independent peer-
reviewed scientific body.
With Sincere Aloha Aina,
