Message:
We are concerned about the impact on roads in East Hawai'i. Using only weed whacking in
attempt to control our copious vegetation would require extensive hand work/ clogging up our
already narrow highway arteries with work crews who are working against an never ending
task. Beside the extensive use of fuel in weed whacking and additional noise pollution, this
causes additional problems re climate change. Picture yourself sitting in traffic in the narrow
two lane highway while you breathe the noxious fumes from the many weedwackers and
idling automobiles. We do it already, but now multiply it many times. Where does county
have $14 million annually to pay for this program?Additionally where do we get the extra
workers with potential future pensions to do this heavy manual labor? Where do we get the
money to provide disability payments for these employees who will constantly be breathing
the weed whacker and stumbling over uneven ground.
Hawaii County Bill 101 - Relating to Herbicides
STRONGLY OPPOSE
Dear Hawaii County Council Members,
I Oppose this bill for several reasons.
1. Bans products needed for Hawaii County to control invasive species
and plants.
2. The cost, it's unfair to force taxpayers to pay for a Bill that has not
been thought out.
3. It's a precursor to a larger ban; targeted at agriculture and turfgrass.
We cannot afford to lose another farmer over bad bills.
Please consider the impacts of passing a bill of this magnitude without a
plan! According to the Hawaii County Parks & Recreation Director, this Bill
will cost more than $14 Million dollars annually...
VOTE NO ON BILL 101 - The costs and impacts have not been considered
before this bill was submitted.
