Aloha, As a Kama'aina of Hawaii island, I am very concerned about the negative effects of
Bill 101. I was raised on the Big Island and my children were born here. Health, safety and
protecting our precious environment for future generations are very important issues for my
family and I. Please look at all the facts concerning Bill 101. These herbicides are registered
with the EPA and if used according to the label, can be safe and useful tools. Also please
understand the LD50 of these herbicide products compared to other commonly used household
chemicals, medicines, food additives, alcohol/tobacco, and petroleum products. LD50 is the
amount of a toxic agent (as a poison, virus, or radiation) that is sufficient to kill 50 percent of a
population of animals usually within a certain time. The lower the number of the LD50 the
more toxic it is. Basically the LD50 explains how toxic something is. Please see the following
information from the University of Florida about the comparison of oral LD50 values for
commonly used herbicides and consumer goods. Common consumer chemicals LD50

STRONGLY OPPOSE Bill 101 -Relating to Herbicide Use
Dear Hawaii County Council Members,
I Oppose this bill for several reasons.
1. Bans the Use of Producst to Control the Albezia Trees
2. Bans Product that help limit habitate for LIttle Fire Ant Populations
3. Removes important tools and choices to combat invasive plants and prenet noxius
weeds and invasive species.
4. I'm unwilling to bear the Cost associated with this Bill as a taxpayer.
Please consider the impacts of passing unfunded and un-researched Bills. What will be the real
cost to Hawaii County taxpayers $500,000 or $5 Million; The costs and impacts have not been
considered before submitting this Bill.
