My statement of testimony:
Although I'm a resident of Oahu,I am wring you to express my strong support for Bill 101.I am a nature lover,a
pet owner,a family member, and a marine biologist, but mainly I am just a caring human being who loves our planet
and who believes in a healthy quality of life for all.In the'50s I was a young child growing up among the woods
and fields of Connecticut.Back then,we kids could roll around in the dirt, chew on grass, eat snow and icicles in
winter, and make mud pies and dirt forts galore—all without fear of encountering toxic chemicals with the potential
to harm us. Grasses and weeds along our roadsides, in our parks, yards, and gardens, were dealt with mechanically,
not chemically. Weeding, mowing, trimming and pruning, were considered healthy forms of physical exercise that
took us outdoors into the sunshine and fresh air,and kept us in touch with nature.None of us back then could have
imagined a time would come when the preferred"go to"methods of maintaining yards, parks, gardens and roadsides
(not to mention growing our food)would be to spray biocides! I hope Bill 101 passes and becomes a first step for
what will become a gradual"sea change"as we collectively learn to shift our thinking and behavior away from our
modern but misguided dependence on chemicals that harm life,to regenerative methods that help restore safety to
the environment by enhancing life. Please do the right thing and pass this bill.
