Subject: I support Hawaii County Bill 101
Date: Tuesday,November 19,2019 11:57:43 AM Date 119/2019
I Janelle Williams strongly urge the county council members from all districts to vote yes in
support of Bill 101 to stop the use of harmful herbicides like round up on our parks and
roadways. As a former UH Hilo student of Environmental Studies, Political Science and
Community planning I see the importance of managing county resources in a way that
supports our environment and community's health.
The long term damage that is currently underway as gallons and gallons of harmful toxins and
poisons are sprayed into our soils and watersheds will continue to accumulate and degrade our
ecosystems and the health of our communities. We cannot afford to continue this way of
living.
As a mother of four I strongly urge you all, especially Tim Richards of Kohala who did not
support this, to consider the message you are sending to the children and those yet to be born
and to vote yes in support of this ban.
This will not infringe on personal freedoms but it will stop the poisoning of our own Island
with our own tax monies. It is sickening to imagine how many gallons of herbicide toxins
have been purchased with taxes money from our own community. Our community does not
wish to poison itself. We must make a better choice for our future. We must choose health and
safety over convenience and the influence of powerful lobbyists.
No amount of money can reverse the long term damages that have resulted from spraying
toxins and poisons across our Island, exposing our children and water supply, exposing our
friends and loved ones to carcinogenic compounds that have absolutely affected our health and
safety in negative ways.
Please make a better choice to stop this now. Please vote yes to Bill 101 and if you vote
against this, please know we will not forget who stood in support of chemical company
revenues over their constituency. The health and well being of our community is worth the
effort to change and transition away from toxic herbicides.
Thank you,
Aloha
Janelle Williams
