Subject: Testimony:I support Bill 101 to Ban Synthetic Herbicides from County Parks &
Roadways
Aloha
I am a fourth generation coffee farmer in Holualoa and my family has been chemical free for 50 years. We are
located about 2 miles directly from the ocean at 1,400 elevation. What we do on our farm affect not just our
soil but our waterways and into the sea. I also understand the sheer undertaking this would involve for the
county to change their ways this dramatically and I feel it is a worthwhile venture to figure out. With all the
science behind what this synthetic herbicides has and will continue to cause damage to our health and nature, it
must be banned in our roadways and parks to get this out of our soil, air and waterways. It will open an
opportunity for a stronger community through it's growing pains to help the county maintain the
weeds. Building a stronger adopt a highway or park program for example. I am in strong support of passing
this Bill 101 to Ban Synthetic Herbicides along County Parks and Roadways. I hope you will not turn a blind
eye and make the Pono decision today to sleep well tonight knowing you protected our aina and the people of
Hawai'i.
Mahalo for listening!
