Subject: I support Bill 101
Aloha Chair Chung,Vice-Chair Eoff, and members of the Council,
Thank you for the opportunity to testify in support of this measure.
I support this bill because the results will be benefit to public health, conservation efforts, and ultimately,to agriculture,
since although it currently exempts agriculture, the bill, if passed, will use the same rationale to ban herbicides in
farming and ranching.
I am also not concerned for my safety since roadways don't quickly become overgrown with weedy plants. Furthermore,
as farmers and ranchers who rely upon our precious watersheds, we are concerned that those areas will become safer
for collecting water that doesn't have contamination.
When weeds are allowed to grow their flowers produce much needed forage for pollinating insects! We can look at our
roadsides and the areas that have been controlled with these toxic chemicals as under utilized resources. Let some
space vegetation be controlled by grazing small animals that could provide food to the most vulnerable people in our
community.
I am grateful for the opportunity to share my thoughts with you.
The passage of Bill 101 will be of great benefits to our island community! rat
Thank you for taking our concerns and comments into consideration.
