Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 115,reports as follows:
Bill No. 115, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna Sako, via Communication No. 605 dated
October 31, 2019, amends Ordinance No. 19-73, as amended, the Operating Budget for the County of
Hawaii for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2020.
This bill appropriates revenues in the State Grants—Mauna Kea Costs account ($10 million); and
appropriates the same to the Mauna Kea Costs account. Funds from the State of Hawaii would be used
to reimburse the County for overtime costs, supplies, equipment, and other expenses incurred by the
Police Department in response to the protest activities related to the construction of the Thirty Meter
Telescope on the summit of Mauna Kea.
Postponed on November 19, 2019, to December 3, 2019.
There was no discussion on this matter.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 115, and recommends
its passage on first reading.
