Dear County Representatives,
It has been a very stressful year for us as well as other folks who want to go home. We purchased our
20 acre farm many years ago so our family could be together as an ohana growing food for us as well as
the community. Our children spent long hours, money and hard work to develop it only to see all the fruit
bearing trees destroyed by the gases. I consider ourselves blessed that they are safe and we still have
our land. However, as you can imagine, the jungle takes over if there is no one to care for it as is what's
happening now. Nicolette and our other daughter, Sophia and our son, John hike in over an hour with
weed wackers, gasoline, water, etc., through cane grass, bamboo and dangerous pukas. But it is not
good enough and takes a considerable amount of energy and time for them. With your help it will be a life
saver to reopen Pohoiki Road
My husband and I were off island celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary when the eruption started
and are still waiting for the day Pohoiki Road will be opened so we can return. We can not come back
until then and it is now almost two years. We are an elderly couple with a small income which makes it a
hardship to be paying rents away from our land which we need to get back to.
Respectfully yours,
