I am Sheryl Ogawa, a resident of Keaau, and I am teaching at Pahoa High &
Intermediate School. Please support Resolution 359-19 supporting Pahoa High &
Intermediate School.
Our school is in an environment that has changed due to the recent Leilani volcanic
eruption. Resolution 410-19: will provide our students with cultural enrichment to help
stabilize some of the effects of this change. Our students deserve support as they have
endured crisis after crisis in an already fragile culture. For example, attendance is a
problem on campus and no matter what we try to implement, if a child is absent it won't
work. Our students deserve extra incentives and rewards to provide a rich learning
environment on campus.
I am personally involved as a teacher who would welcome any attempt to promote a
positive campus climate and provide our students with extra support and enrichment
opportunities that funding will provide. We have equipment on campus such as a dye
cut machine that is over 30 years old. Our students should be supported with useable
equipment that will enhance learning and create a rich learning environment.

Resolution 410-19:
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PAHOA
SCHOOLS SUPPORT FOUNDATION TO ENHANCE LEARNING, ENGAGE
STUDENTS, AND AID IN STUDENT RETENTION.
