A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FOOD BASKET,
INC., FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS "WE'VE GOT YOUR BACK" KEIKI
BACKPACK PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, The Food Basket, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission
is to end hunger in Hawai`i County with programs that provide food, promote the value of
nutrition, and increase self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, while most students in Hawai`i County are eligible for free or reduced
breakfasts and lunches at school, during the times that school is not in session, these children
may not be receiving regular meals, especially in households where parents are working two or
more jobs; and
WHEREAS, The Food Basket, Inc., anticipates providing thousands of children with
backpacks full of nutritious food, edible plant seeds, and nutrition information through its
"We've Got Your Back" Keiki Backpack Program; and
WHEREAS, The Food Basket, Inc., is requesting funds to cover expenses for backpacks,
locally-sourced food, supplies, and educational materials for its "We've Got Your Back" Keiki
Backpack Program; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports the development of
a local economy that is diverse, stable, and in balance with Hawai`i's ecology, community
character, and cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to The Food Basket, Inc., for its "We've Got Your
Back" Keiki Backpack Program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
