REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON PLANNING DATE: December 17, 2019 Re: Comm.No. 653 PLACE: Council Chambers Kailua-Kona, Hawaii TIME: 1:05 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Planning,to which was referred Communication No. 653, reports as follows: Communication No. 653, dated November 29, 2019, and transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, nominates Patti Pinto of Council District 5 to the Puna Community Development Plan(CDP) Action Committee. If confirmed, she would serve a term to end December 31, 2024. Appearing by videoconference from Hilo, Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced the nominee. She told your Committee that Ms. Pinto was retired and had spent more than 26 years with the Sequoyah School, an independent K-12 school in Pasadena, California, where she last held the title of Director of Operations. Ms. Pinto has been a resident of Hawaii for approximately 13 years. She previously served in the Puna CDP Action Committee from 2011 to 2016, and served as chairperson for three of those years. She is not a member of any political party. If confirmed, she would serve a five-year term to end December 31, 2024. Ms. Pinto, also appearing from Hilo, said she appreciated the nomination and looks forward to serving. After a two-year hiatus, she was eager to get back to work on the General Plan and integration of the Puna CDP. Council Member Matt Kaneali'i-Kleinfelder said he has come to know the nominee since his 2018 campaign for office. He has since come to respect her and her opinions, and what she is able to contribute to the boards, commissions, and community associations. He said he is happy to have her here. Council Member Maile David, who acted as Committee Chair,thanked Ms. Pinto and welcomed her back. With her passion, Ms. Pinto would be a plus to the Puna CDP, she said. Ms. Pinto was informed that she was not required to appear at the next Council meeting. PC Report No.:41
