Dear Chairman Chung and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Mark Van Pernis of Council District 8 to the Leeward
Planning Commission. Mr. Van Pernis is a semi-retired attorney who practiced in the
area of real estate law. He obtained his law degree from the University of Miami School
of Law.
Mr. Van Pernis has been a resident of Hawai'i for over 43 years and has generously
volunteered his time to various community organizations, including the American Red
Cross, Kailua Village Design Commission, the State of Hawai'i Redistricting
Commission, and more.
Mr. Van Pernis is a member of the Democratic party. If confirmed, he will serve a
5-year term to end December 31, 2024.
