RESOLUTION NO. 465 20
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA
FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES INCURRED RELATING TO THE 6TH
INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC WORKSHOP ON RAT LUNGWORM DISEASE.
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that partners with
governmental agencies and nongovernmental organizations with similar interests to increase
public awareness on issues involving environmental protection and community wellness, such as
the rat lungworm disease on Hawai`i Island; and
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna has partnered with the University of Hawai`i at Hilo to host
the 6th International Scientific Workshop on Rat Lungworm Disease, held in Hilo January 5-8,
2020, which included discussions and presentations on recent developments that would reduce the
risk of contracting rat lungworm disease; and
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting a reimbursement for expenses relating to the
venue, educational materials, and accommodations for presenters of this scientific workshop; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports innovative
agricultural research to strengthen the production of food and product marketing; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna for reimbursement of expenses
relating to the 6th International Scientific Workshop on Rat Lungworm Disease that was held
January 5-8, 2020.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
