TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION 431-20

The Hawaii Island Community Development Corporation supports the passage of
Resolution No. 431-20 directing the Hawaii County to Strategically Address Its Housing
Crisis with Urgency.
The existence of the Housing Crisis is well documented and the County has been making
efforts to address the matter. However, the scale of the problem and its trending toward
even greater proportions requires clear analysis, new ideas, and greater coordination
amongst the various parties including the county departments.
HICDC has developed more than 600 affordable homes on the island and is continuing in
its efforts. HICDC supports efforts such as called for in Resolution 431-20 that can be
implemented in the near future. Such implementation will assist us and others in the
development of homes within reach of the community at large. The Hawaii Island
Community Development Corporation looks forward to participating in the development
of these concepts.
