Dear Council Members,
As a lava evacuee, my husband and I have just moved again, for the 6th
time. We have a home remaining in the Lighthouse kipuka that we could
be living in if we had access. We don't have a clear picture of our future -
we are still in limbo going on 20 months now. We continue to hike out to
our property twice a week to do yard work. We cannot begin to do repairs
on the infrastructure there until we can drive equipment in, the longer we
have to wait the more its going to cost us in repairs. You all know the
upkeep that is needed in this environment and each month that goes by
adds to the degradation.
We need answers, we need access, we need hope that we can move home
again. We are still stuck on road recovery - that process should have been
taken care of months ago. I thought one of the priorities of the recovery
team was to get people home - there are still way too many people
without access. How much longer?
Regarding road recovery, where do we stand on Hwy 137 from 4 Corners
to Kapoho Kai? Vacationland Hawaii Community Association has an SBA
loan on hold to restore subdivision roads, we need that section of road
opened to gain access for all the property owners. This is another area
that we are in limbo about, its time for some answers.
