Aloha Hilo County Council,
My name is Naomi Ahu and I am a co-founder of the Keaukaha One Youth Development—RISE 21st
Century After School Program, a non-profit organization that has implemented out of school time youth
programming since 2006. I submit this testimony in support of Resolution No.436 20, for our collaborative
effort with Temple Children's 'Activate Hilo' event.
KOYD is committed to engaging our youth in various ways that contribute to their exploration
of careers available through our interactions and learning with others. We believe that this
collaboration provided valuable exposure to the art and entrepreneurial sectors. It also allowed our youth
to share their RISE cultural learning experiences with the visiting artists and project participants to foster
a better understanding of place and how that contributes to their development as future leaders and the
sustainability of our Hawaiian communities.
On behalf of myself and our Executive Director, Keahi Warfield, I humbly ask that you support this
Resolution to help offset the costs of this successful event that not only provided positive opportunities for
our youth, but uplifted our community and contributed to an even greater sense of pride for this place we
call home. Mahalo for your time and consideration.
