Aloha,
My name is Miya Tsukazaki and I am the Director of Temple Children, an arts and
sustainability organization based in Hilo. I submit this testimony in support of Resolution No.
436 20, as my organization partnered with Keaukaha One Youth Development to create the
'Activate Hilo' event and I saw firsthand that it was a huge success and resonated beautifully
with the community and youth.
The Activate Hilo event provided a fresh, multi-faceted addition to Black and White Night,
that activated the Kalakaua portion of Downtown Hilo, including the park, livening the area
with interactive art exhibits and installations in Kalakaua Park and East Hawaii Cultural
Center for the first time, where the community could experience art, music, food and dancing
simultaneously in one concentrated area. We continue to get compliments from the
community on the event nearly two months later, and are so proud to be able to contribute to a
vibrant and uplifting community project.
