There are many compelling reasons to discontinue using glyphosate; the most important being it's direct correlation with lymphoma. While it is.inconvenient to find effective ways to control weeds that don't use toxic chemicals, the fact that over 40 countries have outright banned this chemical give me reason to think there are alternatives out there. Critics of the ban will argue that there may be increased costs to the county as a result. What this claim ignores is the fact that Monsanto has been hit with a historic 3 billion verdict in their third straight trial. Not only does the continued use of glyphosate based herbicides in Hawaii county jeopardize the health of workers, it risks being open to a lawsuit by employees who were exposed to dangerous levels of the carcinogen while on the job. • F`+3 =y Hawaii DOE Superintendent Dr. Kishimoto banned the use of glyphosate on all school _ grounds. Granted the total area is less than the area of county roads and parks needing maintenance however, I am not aware that the ban made maintenance costs go up. Thank you for your time, and for considering this testimony. Sincerely, ' Liz Laliberte Hilo, HI Comm. Noo. . _ ' 1:19)14- Ref. To: Cwow Ref. nate JAN - g 202Q
