Aloha,
I was born and raised here in Kona and have been an active member of this community and
sports enthusiast all my life. I graduated from Konawaena and have coached soccer and
outrigger paddling. My purpose and mission is to keep the young people active in healthy
athletic activities to help keep them off the streets and become more well rounded members of
this community. Also to encourage and inspire mothers to stay fit and healthy especially after
having their children.
I was the Athletic Health Care Trainer at Kealakehe High for 10 years and Miss Kona Coffee
in 1992. I am now a mother of two children, my daughter who is 9 is an avid soccer player
and my son who is 12 loves football. They are both involved in sports on a weekly basis. I
also utilize the public Old Airport fields multiple times a week for my workouts.
The sports fields were put in place for the activity,well being, and promotion of health for our
young people and this entire community. It is absolutely of dire importance that we keep our
children safe from these herbicidal sprays. Spending all this money to make fields for their
health and then risking it at the same time, is obviously counter productive on so many levels.
If there is a natural and safe alternative,this would be the obvious choice. Please listen to the
voice of this community and help keep our children and community members alike, safe from
these harmful chemicals. Mahalo for taking the time to read our concerns.
