Subject: I Oppose Bill 101

Aloha Chair Chung,Vice-Chair Eoff,and members of the Council,
Thank you for the opportunity to testify in opposition to this measure.
I oppose this bill in general because the bill will increase cost for the resident taxpayers of Hawaii County.
This bill clearly also ignores scientific consensus and the regulatory measures already in place at the State and
Federal levels. As such this bill is not unlike the anti-GMO bills passed by Hawaii and Kauai County Councils and
voter referendum on Maui only to be defeated later in the Courts. As a lifetime agriculturist on Hawaii Island
although this bill currently exempts agriculture,the bill,if passed,will typically be used to preclude the use of the
same misguided rationales to attempt the ban of herbicides used in farming and ranching.
I am also very concerned about our safety along our roadways as they become overgrown with weeds,causing blind
spots for motorists and pedestrians that can result in devastating accidents.In addition the amount of personnel and
machinery along our roadways required to replace herbicide weed control will greatly increase the potential for
accidents,gridlock and traffic along our roadways.
Please oppose Bill 101.
