Dear Chair Chung and Council Members:
In accordance with the County Charter Section 13-4, 1 submit Denise Nakanishi of
Council District 3 for reappointment to the Board of Ethics.
The Council recently confirmed Ms. Nakanishi on October 2, 2019 with an expiration
term of December 31, 2019. She is now eligible to serve a full 5-year term that would
expire on December 31, 2024. According to the report led by your Finance Committee,
several committee members offered favorable comments about Ms. Nakanishi after
hearing her original nomination.
As noted previously, Ms. Nakahishi is not affiliated with any political party.
Due to the needs of the Board, I respectfully ask that this nomination be waived through
Committee and placed on the full Council agenda of February 5, 2020. 1 further request
that Ms. Nakanishi's appearance also be waived as she previously appeared before
Council on September 17, 2019.

RE: Comm. No. 722 Reappointment of Denise Nakanishi to the Board of Ethics.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Finance to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter,timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request
is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Finance for placement on its future agenda.
