To: Council Testimony; Kanealii-Kleinfelder,Matt; Kierkiewicz,Ashley / Subject: Pahoa Mass Transit issue Date di/It! Date: Thursday,January 09,2020 7:17:24 PM JJJ 1 Aloha, council members: I have absolutely no idea what is going on between our two Puna reps,..sounds like ho'oponopono is in order...we need our crew working together. I'm so glad to be oblivious to the nuances... But let me tell you this:we need that Pahoa Mass Transit Hub and we need it at the site proposed by the consultants our County paid to make the decision! We do not need this Hub at the new shopping center—we already have a bus stop there and another one across the street! Here is the deal:with the Hub across town from there, and the little buses coming through the town, you're actually giving us EXISTING businesses a fighting chance! This new idea of Puna Kai hosting the hub could just completely nail the coffin shut on the historic village! Please stick with the proposed plan that we paid good money to get!Honestly,I need to understand, why is this even coming up in the 11th hour?! As far as I can tell, this is a funds transfer bill, isn't it?Why are we talking site,at this point? If any of you folks are willing to come out to Pahoa and take a tour of the town,I'll call in sick to work and drive you around. But please do not make these kind of decisions to go all the way back to the drawing board, and pay more money to consultants and appraisers and who the heck knows who else, because all of a sudden you don't like the site that the consultants picked?! I can't stand that we even pay consultants, but we paid people to be the experts, the experts have their recommendation,we took it,and now we need to pay for the Hub. We need the buses to come, drop people off and pick people up in littler buses and drive them around Pahoa.Isn't that what a HUB does?Don't get me started on the shopping center—one way in and one way out, without regard to our Puna CDP Circulation Plan! There should be another road connecting that damn shopping center—both centers, actually,to Apa'a Street(Rubbish Dump Road). That's the only way there could be HUB!And since that is currently a pipe dream, along with extending Post Office Road and many other things in our"plans,"let's proceed with something that could happen for Pahoa, like the HUB at Highway 130 and 132.It's all ready to go,except for the funding piece! Why the perceived monkey wrench?! Please give me hope that we are actually going to get something out of this recovery, other than a damn road to nowhere! Please!
