Dear Honorable Mayor Harry Kim and Hawaii County Council Members:
I am in strong support of Mark Van Pernis to serve on the Hawai'i Leeward Planning Commission.

Mr. Mark VanPernis, past endeavors and hard work in our community gave his time as a volunteer
through various clubs and activities. Especially at the, "The Kona Self-Help Desk",that was established
in October 2013 where Mark VanPernis was honored for his commitment to his community to access
justice in the courts. He was also instrumental in drafting statues and fought for Public Shoreline Access,
to our beaches especially Kua Bay, Mauna Kea and many others.
He worked tirelessly to be pono,which included assisting Hawaiian family members and their efforts of I
complications of claim quiet titles to their properties,working with the title companies and ensuring
Hawaiian family members to their rights to their lands.
I have heard from several of my constituents' in North and South Kona District that are in support of him
and have asked me to endorse Mr. Mark VanPernis to be a member of the West Hawaii Planning
Commission.
Mr. Mark VanPernis is the right person for this commission and brings the expertise of his years of law
practice and his vast knowledge of real estate law cases that dealt with development and the public
sector. Our leeward communities'future will truly benefit greatly with the strength and knowledgeable
expertise of this great community person that I highly recommend to sit on The Leeward Planning
Commission.
